The Laboratory for Foreign Language Policy in Algeria and Teacher Professionalization of the Faculty of Letters and Languages organized a national hybrid symposium on Thursday, July 3, 2025, entitled:
“The Digitalization of Language Teaching Departments: Opportunities, Implications, and Future Perspectives.”
The symposium was held under the chairmanship of Dr. FIHAIMA Ammaria, in the presence of Professor KHERBOUCHE Abderrahmane, Dean of the Faculty of Letters and Languages, as well as Dr. BENSAID Abbassia, Vice-Dean in charge of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research.
The event included both in-person and remote scientific sessions, allowing for a rich exchange of ideas and experiences among participants, and opening debates on the future of digitalizing language departments in the era of modern technologies.
The symposium brought together a group of teacher-researchers and doctoral students from various universities across the country. Their contributions enriched the scientific space by offering serious reflections on the current state of language teaching in our academic institutions and its future in light of the rapid digital transformations shaping our world.
Digitalization is no longer a mere technical option, but rather a strategic orientation that compels us—as academics, researchers, and practitioners—to rethink teaching and training methods, pedagogical approaches, learning materials, and the ultimate goals of language education. This must be done in light of the opportunities offered by technology, the challenges it poses, and the issues it raises for the future.
This gathering served as a valuable opportunity for the exchange of visions and ideas, and as a moment to raise essential questions about how to integrate digitalization with scientific, ethical, and pedagogical awareness, while preserving the human and cultural dimensions of language.
